Dam Meeting

Tonight Grandpa and I went to the meeting about the condition of the Wolf Creek Dam. It was an excellent presentation by the Corps of Engineers. There 1000 in attendance.

The basic issue is that in the 1930's and '40's when they built the dam they did not extend the concrete far enough and deep enough and so now the limestone base on the dirt edges of the dam are leaking.

The situation is serious but a catastrophic break is not imminent. They are beginning to rebuild deeper and wider walls which could take another 8 years to complete.

They had topographical maps showing the worse case scenarios for our town. Worse case we would have 21 hours to evacuate before we would see any changes at all in the river and creeks around here. Worse case the water does not come anywhere near our subdivision.

We would evacuate because of destruction that would be south of us. We are not worried but now we have the information in order to talk over our evacuation plans and be aware.

It felt very bizzare to me while sitting there to be hearing speakers talk about a dam break that might involve our family.

We look to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for His continued protection.
